Careers

Starting in 2017, Sirius College has relaunched its Careers offerings to the school community. 'Career Development' will be looking to support your child's academic growth, whilst at the same time seeking to empower them to construct a future for themselves full of hope and self-fulfilment.

You can find more information about what the Career Development team are looking to introduce throughout 2017 on the College's website, but the first major change can be found at the Sirius College website, a new website (mobile phone-friendly) dedicated to Career Development for all secondary students. Full of information on senior schooling, post-school options (including University, TAFE and independent tertiary centres), workplace learning opportunities, upcoming career development events and more, this website is the starting point for your child's journey of career self-discovery. Each student also has their own login area (all students received information on how to log in via their school e-Mail & SEQTA accounts on Friday Feb 10; speak to your child for more information), in which they can plan their own career development journey, undertake self-assessment tests to help refine their potential opportunities, create a resume & cover letter, plan tertiary learning options and more. There's also a section for parents on the website, with helpful information on how you can be a 'career ally' for your child. The weekly Career Development newsletter, distributed to all secondary students every Wednesday, will also be available to parents from the website every Wednesday.

Career Development is not just for senior students, and the faster your child can start to define their career ambitions and work towards them, the more successful they can be in school! For more information on what the Career Development team is looking to bring to Sirius College in 2017 and beyond, please refer to the 'Career Development' page on the College website, or contact any of the Career Development team; details for Mr. Scott Westray (Career Development Coordinator) and Mr. Mithat Demir (MFC Careers Advisor) are on the Career Development website. You can also follow 'Sirius College Career Development' on Facebook.

Humanities Department

In 2017 students in Humanities will study History in semester one beginning with Ancient History in Year 7 and moving all the way to Twentieth Century History in Year 10. Semester 2 will be dedicated to Geography with an additional Civics component for Years 7 and 8. In order to further enhance learning we have organized a range of activities including a trip to the Melbourne Museum for Year 7s, an incursion about medieval times for Year 8s, an excursion to the Old Melbourne Gaol for Year 9s and Year 10s will attend the Immigration Museum.

At VCE the Humanities Department offers Accounting, Business Management, Economics, History, Legal Studies and Texts & Traditions. These subjects allow students to learn about the world around them and develop skills that will assist them both at university and in the workforce.
